Cricket is one of the most striking, grey appaloosa suri herdsires we have ever seen. He is large boned & SOLID with perfect conformation. His coverage is fantastic - from head to toe fleece which he also passes onto his crias. As an alpaca breeder for the past 13 years, great coverage is very visually important to me. I want this in my llamas too. We also love the dark grey spots all over his face, which he has thrown to some of his offspring. One thing is for certain, each one of his crias has a gorgeous head and perfect conformation - easily seen even at birth. So far, all of his offspring have been very striking greys, with lots of other colors mixed in as well. When Cricket was a cria and younger herdsire, he had excellent suri lock structure and has thrown some grey appaloosa suris himself. He still retains a suri lock structure, but with so much density that his locks have become flatter and somewhat less structured. Yet I use electric shearers whenever he is shorn, and slick shear him to the skin in order to keep him cool and comfortable. I strongly believe that if I had used hand (scissor-type) shearers, whenever I had sheared him, he would have retained more of the pencil type, suri lock structure which he was born with. Yet even when Cricket is shorn, he is just as gorgeous out in the field, as his skin color (below all that fleece) with many different and contrasting colored dark grey, black, and brown spots is most striking!
Honestly, I have seen many llamas, but Cricket always takes my breath away whenever I see him in the field, due to his commanding presence and beauty. I am proud to say that he has always stamped these wonderful characteristics to all of his offspring.
